PAINT
Here are some words from an internationally renowned expert of healthy houses. He IS an expert, unlike so many who just purport to be. "There is a considerable amount of evidence describing the toxicity of the solvents used by painters every day. In 1989, a Michigan child developed a rare form of mercury poisoning after his family painted the interior of their house with what they thought was benign latex paint. Mercury had been used in the paint as a fungicide and the toxic metal evaporated into the air of the house as the paint dried. The metal arsenic is a common component of chemically treated lumber used for wooden decks, porches, and railings. This lumber has a GREENISH tint. One worker, who job it was to build picnic tables, was so affected (by the arsenic) that he vomited seven to eight units of blood, nearly HALF of his body's supply. This type of lumber is often found on picnic tables. I also have serious concerns about children playing on surfaces made of treated wood." Yes, I am digressing, but please follow me.) "Actually, the brain is a VERY SENSITIVE ORGAN and it is easily affected by pollutants, especially volatile organic compounds, (VOC's) and pesticides, many of which have well documented neurotoxic effects."
He goes on to say, in another section of the book, how the paint that we use in our homes can cause SEVERE adverse reactions. Some of the symptoms appear to be asthma, others can manifest themselves as depression and paranoia. Most people are told by their physician and family members, "it's all in your head", when in fact, it's all in their HOUSE!
FLUORESCENT LIGHTS
You're probably exposed to them all day long, if you're in an office building. Those lights may cost less to operate than other types of lighting, but the toll on your eyes is AWFUL. Many folks don't realize the importance of full-spectrum lighting - the kind that come from the sun. THAT type of lighting is very good for your eyesight. When you are exposed on a daily basis, solely to fluorescent lighting or regular incandescent bulbs, you may even have feelings of gloom and doom. We have enough things in this world that generative negative emotions already - we certainly don't need more from artificial light.
Try to get your hands on some full spectrum lighting. Even if you cannot install it at your place of work, you assuredly can install it at home. It will improve your vision, and your mood. There are a lot of folks out there with corrective lenses, who only need them because they've been working under fluorescent lighting for years.
PRESCRIPTION DRUGS
We covered this topic already, in another section. It bears by those who are following this section entitled CHECKLIST OF CONTROLS. The subject is being added here, so that you will be sure to go there. Click HERE, or go to INCIDENTAL ITEMS OF INTEREST, Pages 16 and 17.
SLEEPING BAGS
Earlier, in CAMPING GEAR, we touched on sleeping bags. Let's just take an in-depth look. Sleeping bags encase you in synthetics, and keep you cut off from receiving natural rejuvenating energy from the earth. At one time, I could still get a good, all-natural materials sleeping bag. Those days seem to be gone, unless I am missing something.
All I have seen lately, are sleeping bags made of nylon or other synthetic material, filled with polyester, or on rare occasion, goose down. Goose down is great, but not if your body is touching synthetic materials first.
Sleeping bags could VERY easily be made of natural materials, and your sleep would be vastly improved. Wool or cotton could be the outside, and goose down or cotton or wool, the filler used. Sheepskin is an EXCELLENT choice for a liner, and less expensive than goose down.
I am hoping that some bright entrepreneur starts making them. If I hear about it, my family will be some of their first customers.
LEATHER GOODS
Even though I've discussed several different aspects of the benefits of leather goods already, I'd like to address it, specifically. I challenge you to find a 100% leather attaché case, lined with leather. Good luck. Of course, some other material will have to be used to make it stiff - stainless steel works. How about finding a bowling ball bag that is made of 100% leather, or an unlined leather vest, or a datebook, or a Bible, or a purse, or a hat, or a cigarette case, or a lounge chair.
I HAVE found some, but almost all of them were made in a different country, vintage, or made by hand. The deceit out there is TERRIBLE. We need to take the responsibility for our goods away from THE OLYMPIANS, who supply our daily needs. Enough of us know how to make consumer goods - quality ones, that we don't really need to rely on THEM to supply us. It will also give us the amazing opportunity to deal with each other, in barter. THE PLANNERS HAVE ALREADY tried to cut us off from doing THAT, but as long as we are able to communicate with each other, we have the freedom to do as we wish.
COSMETICS
Maybelline used to be owned by Schering-Plough, then, it was acquired by Wasserstein Perella & Co., and then it was purchased by L'Oréal; Cover Girl started out under the umbrella of the Noxzema Chemical Company, then Proctor & Gamble bought it, and in 2016, Coty acquired it; Max Factor is owned by Proctor & Gamble; Avon is controlled by THE PLANNERS; Oil of Olay, now simply called "Olay" is owned by Proctor & Gamble; Almay is part of Revlon; Charles of the Ritz used to be part of Revlon, but is now defunct; Neutrogena is owned by Johnson & Johnson - talk about monopolies!
